Live Event Thursday - Why Connect With Our Own Indigenous Roots?
This Thursday March 27 at 10:30am Pacific, 1:30pm Eastern, and 6:30pm Central Europe time, I will be co-hosting a live event with animist teachers Christina Pratt and Langston Kahn. Christina and Langston hold many online classes and in-person retreats in Portland, OR, each year. I have studied with them since 2017 and I think they are the best in the world, for those of us who did not grow up immersed in cultural, earth-based spiritual traditions (such as Amazonian shamanism). I am currently in the process, along with some fellow students, of working to bring their in-person retreats to Europe starting in summer 2026.
Connecting with my own indigenous European ancestral helping spirits and their animist ways of life has been crucial in providing a framework for my personal healing work with psychedelic plant medicines. Developing relationships with the ancestors, elements, animals, plants, and other conscious energies around us at all times is a daily practice that helps me to stay connected with spirit and the living consciousness of nature - and to co-create with these energies in service to all life on earth.
This Thursday, myself and a few of my peers will share stories that touch on how these teachings have changed our lives, why we are inspired to bring them to Europe, the value of coming together to practice animism/shamanism in person, the support we have already received from the Land Spirits, and more. We will also hear from Christina and Langston, and will make time for questions and comments. Zoom link here.
In my personal share, I will talk about:
How these practices helped me climb out of chronic illness
The history of nature-based spiritual traditions being violently wiped out in Europe, and encountering this in my own ancestral lineage and past life healings
Spiritual practice as activism
Making life decisions in relationship with spirit
Even if you are not based in Europe, this is an opportunity to hear from Christina, Langston, and students about how we can each connect with our own indigenous ancestry and traditions, no matter where you are from in the world, and no matter how far back in time you may have to reach - and how doing so can powerfully serve us in our lives today.
Here is the Zoom link for Thursday. A recording will be available afterwards - please email me if you are unable to make it live and would like to be sent the recording.
Hope to see you there!
Mia
Upcoming/Ongoing Offerings:
I am helping to organize an in-person Ancestral Healing Retreat with Daniel Foor in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina - Oct 2025. I share the “why” in this blog post.
I offer one-on-one sliding scale calls for individuals who are seeking support on the path of healing. I specialize in working with psychedelic plants, and other means of entering altered states of consciousness such as breathwork and shamanic journeying. I practice from an integrative healing perspective, incorporating the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of wellness. More info at www.miablack.com
My wife Azra offers low-cost private and group Tension/Trauma Release Exercises via zoom. TRE is a somatic healing modality that discharges pent-up stress from the body and nervous system without needing to go into stories about the past. It’s a practice I personally do several times a week that is a cornerstone of my well-being.
Azra and I together offer free weekly group calls for women in the veteran community (veterans and family members of veterans) through The Hope Project, on Wednesdays at 9am PST/noon EST.
Please reach out if you’d like more information.
